A Different Jesus

We’re all familiar with this Jesus, aren’t we? While the movie Dogma definitely took the idea of a friendly Jesus to its comedic extreme, it seems much of modern Christianity tries to make Jesus as approachable as possible. Certainly nothing like what’s pictured in this passage. I’m not sure we have anything in our culture that relates to the language of praise and honor we encounter here. We are so cynical as a society, I doubt we believe even the Son of God can be worthy of this kind of praise.

As I read through the hymns again and again, it slowly dawns on me that we have no frame of reference for this because there has never been anyone like this. Never before, never since. The lion-lamb is unique in all the Universe. This is why he is worthy. Can I grasp that? I admit, I’m struggling. Perhaps this is why salvation is an ongoing process rather than a one-time event. Jesus, save me more this day that I may grasp your glory and praise you along with the multitudes in heaven.
