My dogs are afraid of big noises. Long before I hear thunder, Bijou will notify me of a coming storm by bumping the bed as she lays down as close to me as possible. I reach down and pet her before I roll over, smiling because she is afraid of such a silly thing.
These plagues are not so silly as the sound of a thunderstorm to a dog, but as the Kingdom of God we should no more fear them than we would a passing summer squall. We are sealed, preserved to the end by our salvation to new life. Does the thought of these natural disasters scare you?
Or have we been experiencing them already? Dr. Wright hasn’t talked too much about when these things are supposed to happen. Maybe they’ve been happening all along…who knows? So I guess the question really is this: are you scared NOW by natural disasters? By political regimes? By “acts of God” that many raving, angry Christians say are God’s judgment on sinful humans? Or do you trust your “seal” in Christ? Or, are you cool, calm and collected, believing in your salvation? Do you trust that you will come out on the other side in the presence of the Throne and the Lamb?
