N.T. Wright’s references to earthquakes reminded of the only quake I’ve only experienced–and it was here in Michigan of all places, back in 1985. I was working in Ann Arbor at the time. It was more like an earthrattler than a quake, and was probably more unsettling for me than the earth’s crust, but it was scary all the same.
In contrast, I love the idea of God making conquerers pillars in his new temple. What an image–tall, strong, fixed in place. It gives me a feeling of security in a moving sidewalk, shifting, slip/slide world.
