Remember the Seinfeld episode when Jerry got put out when a girl he’d recently started dating because she called him and instead of saying her name, she simply said, “Hi Jerry, it’s me.” Who did she think she was giving him the “It’s me”? Oh sure, he recognized her voice right away, but he still didn’t appreciate her getting so familiar so fast.
I have a feeling Jesus is delighted when one of his followers recognizes his voice right away. Since I’ve been following him for a long time, it’s safe to say that Jesus and I are on an “it’s me” basis. When he “calls” I know it’s him. Unfortunately, just because I hear his voice, it doesn’t always mean I’ll acknowledge it or respond immediately. (Stupid, stupid move on my part. Guess I’m not the sharpest sheep in the fold.) I need to learn to respond to his voice as quickly as I want him to respond to mine.
